Shut down your computer & other electronics when not in use
Use energy-efficient lightbulbs
Use candles when and where you can – you’ll love the ambiance it adds to your home!
Carpool when you can
If possible, drive a fuel-efficient vehicle
Walk or bike where and when you can – you’ll be killing two birds with one stone by getting great exercise in the beautiful outdoors!
Plan your errands in advance and do as many as you can at once – this will make your life easier and by saving you time and money on gas…plus you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint!
Challenge yourself to take a speedier shower – and try not to use water that’s too hot. (Lukewarm or cool water is better for your skin’s hydration, anyway!)
Conserve water during activities like brushing your teeth – by turning off the faucet while you’re actually brushing!
Don’t unnecessarily leave water running while doing the dishes, and if you use a dishwasher, make sure it’s fully loaded before running it so you don’t expend energy unnessarily.
If you can, install low-flow shower heads and toilets
Wash clothes in cold water
Hang to dry
Look for an energy-efficient washing machine (and/or dryer, if you’re opposed to hanging your clothes out to dry
All of these above will save you money on your electric bill, plus it will keep your clothes in tip-top condition! Excessive heat and drying can cause a lot of wear and tear on your favorite clothing.
